Andreas Broger - Reeds & more
For many years “Random/Control” was the most significant project of David Helbock.
The three musicians from Vorarlberg/Austria celebrated their 16th anniversary last year and have given hundreds of concerts together all over the world. After releasing three albums - "Random/Control" (Traumton 2010), "Think of Two" (Traumton 2014), and "Tour d'Horizon" (ACT 2018) - the band is ready for a new program and new adventures.
The album "Think of Two," dedicated to the two music legends Thelonious Monk and Hermeto Pascoal, impressed Hermeto himself so much that he contributed to it and recorded especially for Random/Control in Brazil.
The hallmark of the trio remains the multitude of instruments - just three musicians, but far more than 20 instruments. Andreas Broger plays the clarinet, bass clarinet, various saxophones, and flutes, and now even occasionally sings. Johannes Bär masters almost all brass instruments - sousaphone, tuba, trombone, trumpet, alphorn, but also didgeridoo, beatbox, and drums - and sometimes even all at the same time.
Inspired by this variety of sound possibilities, David Helbock, who focuses on the piano and some percussion, has composed many new pieces, setting poems by William Blake, Emily Dickinson, Erich Fried and others to music.
Now, the trio has invited Fola Dada to sing exactly these poems.
Fola Dada is an extremely versatile artist and can be considered a pioneer when it comes to fusing different genres in singing. The trained jazz singer started with tap dancing in the style of Fred Astaire and didn't stop even while vocal coaching for the DSDS candidates of Dieter Bohlen. She is an indispensable part of the German jazz and soul scene and was awarded the German Jazz Prize in the vocal category in 2022.
Helbock's passionate, wild trio meets one of Germany's most exciting singers!
